Peels
Targeted chemical peels can be a valuable part of a comprehensive treatment regimen to compound the effects and enhance the results of at-home skincare products. These treatments involve the application of a peeling solution to the skin to remove dead skin layers on the surface and to reveal smooth and healthy layers beneath. We offer TCA cross and Glycolic peels, the most popular peel treatment. Called the "glow peel" by many of Dr. Sherber’s patients, 70% glycolic acid peels are popular with patients looking to achieve remarkably radiant skin and are popular as "red carpet peels." Dr. Sherber uses a targeted solution of 70% glycolic acid to lift unwanted dulling surface skin cells to even out skin tone and refine skin texture. We opt for formulas that include potent antioxidants to prevent excess inflammation and to limit downtime. This treatment helps to improve oily or acne-prone skin, brighten uneven pigmentation, and smooth rough dry skin. Our carefully calibrated blend of alpha hydroxy acids and antioxidants allows for a high delivery of glycolic acid to the skin with minimal irritation due to its anti-inflammatory effects. The result is an effective chemical peel with virtually no redness, irritation, or visible peeling afterward.

02Procedure
Immediately before a peel treatment, Dr. Sherber will clean your skin thoroughly with an acetone solution to remove any oils from the skin.
For glycolic peels, the peel solution is applied to cleansed skin for several minutes depending on your skin type. It is often taken down the neck area, and can be applied to the décolleté, hands, or other areas as needed for total clarity of complexion. The 75% TCA solution is applied precisely until a white frost forms over the spot to be treated and a thin rim of surrounding skin. The peel creates a mild and temporary stinging feeling, but is not painful. Dr. Sherber often elects to perform a test spot with TCA to ensure that the treated areas will heal without any pigmentation problems. Treatment does not require numbing and takes 15 minutes.

In the days following a peel treatment of any kind, it is important to be diligent with sun protection and avoid sun exposure on the healing areas. Dr. Sherber typically recommends a mineral or hybrid physical/chemical sunscreen as the gentlest approach for sensitive skin types.
A 70% glycolic peel is considered a “lunchtime peel” because it has no downtime. As a result of the proprietary complex of antioxidants we include to combat inflammation, it will not cause the dramatic redness and peeling of other glycolic peels of comparable strength. However, for a TCA peel treatment, spots treated will be slightly white and appear “frosted” following the treatment until you wash your face. The spots will remain red for a few days following the treatment and may form a small scab.
