  • Mini-abdominoplasty refers to lower abdominal contouring of the abdomen with a shorter scar, and no scar around the belly button (a key difference from Abdominoplasty and Lipoabdominoplasty).

Recommended Procedures

  • Mini-abdominoplasty is ideal for mild skin looseness, correction of rectus diastasis (looseness of core abdominal muscles from pregnancy), and for revision of C-section scars.

    Other Options

    • Abdominoplasty alone is most appropriate in the presence of loose abdominal skin and in the absence of significant fatty deposits of the central abdomen.
    • Liposuction alone is most appropriate in the presence of fatty deposits and good skin elasticity, and in the absence of loose skin.
    • For mothers who experience both loose abdominal skin and breast deflation after pregnancy, a Mommy Makeover is an excellent option.

    How It’s Done

    • Dr. Rad utilizes a gently curving scar that is in the same location as, and slightly longer than, a C-section scar.
    • The skin/fat layer is separated from the muscle layer which, if stretched, is then tightened with permanent suture, excess skin removed and closed.
    • Laser Scar Therapy also helps to fade scars quickly and prevent thickening.

      Safety

      • In Dr. Rad’s hands, mini-abdominoplasty is very safe.
      • Dr. Rad works with a board certified anesthesiologist and performs surgery a hospital operating facility.

         What to Expect

        • This is an outpatient surgery taking approximately 2 hours to perform (with muscle tightening, this may take an additional hour).
        • Temporary moderate discomfort is common and is easily controlled with pain medications.
        • Recovery lasts about 1 to 2 weeks.
        • A single small drainage tube is needed and remain in place for approximately 1 week.

        BEFORE + AFTER

This 36 year old professional had multiple childbirths via C-section – this caused lower abdominal bulge due to weakening and separation of the abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis) and umbilical hernia (a hole through the muscle layer into the belly button). Dr. Rad performed mini-abdominoplasty, repair of rectus diastasis, and sub-muscular breast augmentation with 290 cc Teardrop Silicone Implants.

        What Patients Are Saying

We consulted with three plastic surgeons before choosing Dr. Rad for my 17 year old son’s rhinoplasty and chin implant in March 2017. From the first meeting, we felt confident that Dr. Rad is a skilled, experienced and talented surgeon who pays attention to every detail. He is also a super guy – warm, caring, attentive and welcoming. Everything went smoothly and we are extremely happy with the results. We are very pleased with the whole experience and recommend him without hesitation.

He took time to answer all my questions, I didn’t feel rushed as I did w/ other surgeons I met. His staff was prompt to respond & very friendly. Post surgery I called over a holiday weekend w/ a question & he called me back quickly. It has been an easy recovery & trust him fully. My scars are fading quick & it’s only been 5 weeks! He’s the best!”
